I love my sitting squares!! I work as an early intervention therapist, and my two squares are constantly "on loan" to little clients and their families. My physical therapist colleague and I have used them to encourage rotation in sitting, and to facilitate transitions, such as from sitting to kneeling or to a modified four-point position. They provide wonderful support for some babies that tend toward low tone or who are still a bit unsteady in sitting. I often use a laundry basket to encourage sitting, but the sitting square is less restrictive and has a built-in surface for play. We have found that those who tend toward higher muscle tone or patterns of arching tend to slide themselves out of the square, so it may not be as useful an intervention in these instances. On the other hand, with a parent or caregiver playing at the child's side, a more flexed posture can be encouraged for short periods of time, with facilitation. I have felt like the Sitting Square works as a transition from a Boppy-style support to independent sitting. It also provides the surface for fine motor play and opportunities for rotation and weightbearing through the arms. I really LIKED that it requires some work on the part of the child. Hello, I just received my order for the Sitting Square. This is the best product I have ever purchased for my daughter. She absolutely loves it. Her occupational Therapist came by yesterday and observed my daughter using it and she loved it to. She said he will recommend the Siting Square to her clients and colleagues.
