How to Determine if Your Child Needs Speech Therapy
This Begins At Home
Author, date, or other text
1. Most children go through a phase of being hard to understand. This is typically between the ages of 1 and 3 years. However, as a general rule, if your child is hard to understand beyond the age of 3 years, consider that he may need help.

2. Does your child show frustration whenever you or others do not understand him? If so, this may mean that he knows that what he wants to say is not getting across to others and he does not know what to do to make everyone understand him.

3. Can he correct his speech when you have him repeat after you? If so, keep providing a good model for him and say "Can you say that again using your best talking?" If he cannot correct himself, then he may need help.
